Early Pregnancy-The Importance of Rest and Sleep

Pregnancy is a wonderful adventure for any woman to go through. Yet, every woman who has gone through it will agree it can be demanding in your body and your mind. So many things change at a fast rate it is no surprise that a pregnant woman can get tired. Nevertheless, it is important for a pregnant woman to get as much rest and sleep as possible, especially in the early months.

The first three months of a woman’s pregnancy are considered the “first trimester”. This is generally the time when women feel the most tired. This is due in part to the increased amount of work your body is doing. In the early stages of pregnancy your body starts preparing to make a baby and thus many systems increase their speed to accommodate the extra need. Blood volume doubles and your heart rate increases. Your hormones surge to enormous amounts in order to set the stage for a developing fetus.

Indeed your body is extremely overworked at this period of time. However, it is a very crucial time because it is now that a baby’s most important structures are beginning to form such as the neural tube, heart and circulatory system. So, allowing your body to rest as much as possible will ensure you have enough energy left to devote to the development of your baby.

Another reason why it is so important to get adequate rest and sleep at this stage of pregnancy is because it can help combat some of the unpleasant side effects women offer suffer during this time. Many women suffer from nausea and dizziness which can be attributed to hormones and increased blood volume. Allowing your body to devote energy to this while sleeping or resting will allow you to have more energy when you are awake making the symptoms a little less unpleasant for most people.

Needless to say, growing a human baby is hard work and sleep and rest are the most important things you can do to ensure the wellness of your baby and yourself. A woman should enjoy her pregnancy since it is a miraculous and wonderful event. Even though it may be hard to enjoy with ugly symptoms lurking, by following the proper procedures such as those mentioned here will help to make this a joyous and successful event for all involved.
